It's kind of embarassing that it's so outdated and not used anymore (or at least in practical use). I wonder how people use it on the terminal nowadays? Do people write their own BASIC programs or are there existing libraries for building GUI apps? Are there companies with more recent platforms with BASIC? I've found the (citation) BASIC runtime and the Spectrum basic library, but both seem to be outdated (the BASIC runtime is for BASIC Version 4, while the Spectrum library is for Version 6). A: The ZX Spectrum, and indeed all the later 6502 based machines like the Acorn, were not designed to be a platform for a programming language, and BASIC was designed by people with a much different mind-set. A great deal of programming was done in assembly language, not Basic. I have tried to use BASIC as an editor and language for a very basic editor, and it worked ok. I used a recent version of the Spectrum Basic compiler and gdb. Most programming of any interest is done in assembly language. There are a few IDEs and compilers available to support assembly language programming. A: I suspect that most of the software used nowadays, or used even when the ZX Spectrum was in use, is written in C or C++. I expect that most of the software intended for the Spectrum's BASIC was written in BASIC itself. My guess is that the biggest market for ZX BASIC is not desktop computers, but handheld and retro-consoles. So I think that you would be better off trying to find an emulator and/or a simple BASIC interpreter for your console and/or PC. A: I've used ZX-BASIC a number of times - mainly to execute old "ZX Spectrum" BASIC ROMs as well as various interpreter projects. Most of the time I used it was to create stand-alone tools (configurable from a BASIC menu-driven interface) but occasionally I have also used it 01e38acffe AECOsim V8i for Windows (ALL VISIONS - 2011 & 2012) Windows Builder 2008 / 2009 / 2010 / 2011 / 2012 / 2013 & 2014 The following NEW Free V5.1 Build is available (x86 x64) AECOsim Building Designer V5.1 Most Recently Update 04.05.2014 This Build includes NEW AECOsim V5.1 / V5.0 (all versions) along with X-Sim (version 4.0) which allows many changes and additions to the AECOsim system including the AECOsim.Inpro file system now allows a user to start with any model and can be created at anytime while editing any model using the AECOsim.Inpro tool.
